What Your Signature Says About You

What your signature says about you

A signature is much more than just a vanity that serves as a legitimate ID. S e also reflects personality traits, fears, and secret goals.

While you can’t find out a person’s personality just by looking at their signature, it provides important clues about them. Some even say that a  signature is like a combined autobiography or self-portrait based on assessments that people make of themselves.

Unlike other forms of writing, the human signature also involves discs and pen strokes that complement or even replace the name. These include any lines, embellishments, or distinctive elements that have been added, essentially because the signature is not easy to falsify, but also because we subconsciously provide information about ourselves. The following are the most typical interpretations of signatures:

General features of signatures

One of the main elements that can be used to track a signature is the way the name is spelled. Some people write their name completely, while others abbreviate it or simply omit it altogether. Consider the following variations:

  • Writing the full name: this is a sign of self-esteem, security, and self-acceptance.
  • Shortening or omitting a first name: this shows some degree of rejection of childhood experiences as well as a desire to forget the past.
  • Abbreviation or omission of surname: this is likely to be an unconscious conflict with one of the parents that remains subconscious.
  • Mere initials: this suggests that man carries heavy guilt within him.
  • First name and last name written on different lines: this shows that a person underestimates himself and there is an internal contradiction within him that makes him feel divided.

The size of the signature is also an important factor. Large signatures are compatible with people who want high status or be noticed,  while small signatures indicate that a person does not want to be noticed. If the first name is larger than the last name, it indicates that the person is still caught up in childhood experiences. If the last name is bigger, it represents a great need to become socially successful.

What the style of the signature tells us

There is a saying in graphology “less signature, more personality.” This means that simpler signatures are associated with people who feel more confident and vice versa. There are other signature elements that describe the signer.

  • Wrapped signatures: in these signatures, the name is surrounded by lines enclosing it. This shows insecurity, dependence, immaturity, and a strong affection for the mother. It also points to the need to hide oneself because there is a latent feeling of self-rejection.
  • Signatures with the name overwritten: Sometimes the name appears to have been overwritten by the signature lines. This represents the fear of being attacked by one’s own parents, especially the father. It refers to an excessive desire for perfection as well as the use of strict criteria to guide one’s own life.
  • Signatures where the name is ambiguous: Instead of the name, the signature looks more like a series of lines or a blur that has no visible meaning. This can be interpreted as the output of a person fleeing reality who is very afraid to show who he really is. It also shows feelings of inferiority and hidden fears.

Location of signature

Also, the way the signature is placed on paper provides clues about people  and especially how they feel about themselves and the world. Whether the signature is slanted or placed to the left, center, or right refers to different natures.

  • Oblique or placed to the left: this indicates disappointment and fear of others. Such people set boundaries for themselves so that they can achieve their goals.
  • Centralized: this suggests that a person is hesitant and has a habit of postponing their plans and projects. If the signature is large, that person tends to have a slightly more theatrical behavior.
  • Oblique or positioned to the right: this indicates that the person is independent, proud and individualistic. There is also some instability and the need to do several things at the same time.
